Purpose

Cabs in India were always meant to be black and yellow (Kaali-peeli as they are popularly known in Mumbai). but India saw a rise in better and branded cabs in recent times, pioneered by Meru cabs a few years ago. Then the online revolution started impacting with Tabcab, bookmytaxi, etc coming up.

The latest game changers are Ola and Uber, when cab booking became smart and quick with a smartphone. Also the costs came down with competition and due to cab-pooling options

This was also the time when I upgraded to a lifestyle, where I could afford to have my own car. However, as per my financial intelligence calculations, own car is a depreciating asset, and market has options where I can reach office with an Ola or Uber ride with convenience and comfort of own chauffeur driven car, at a lower cost.

So as my cab rides increased, I started thinking how these newer companies are attracting customers as well as cab owners with huge incentives, despite making losses for the company. This made me probe all drivers (cabbies) about how they go about doing their business and what is their life like.

So during my hour long ride, I get to see a portrait of a man, who spends most of his life behind the steering wheel. This blog is meant to record collage of all such portraits I witness.
